Confirmed Speakers at this time include:

Bob Bowdon - "The Cartel, Public Education in Crisis"

Mr. Bowdon has recently directed his first film, The Cartel. The Cartel explores the problems with the education system in New Jersey. Mr. Bowdon has been a New Jersey-based television producer, reporter, news anchor, and commentator for the past fifteen years. His varied career has seen him producing television shows; hosting news programs; conducting in-depth on-camera interviews; appearing in satirical news sketches for the Onion News Network; anchoring regional news broadcasts covering New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut; and shaping Bloomberg Television's World Financial Report. He is president of Bowdon Media, an Internet marketing firm, and holds degrees in mechanical engineering, engineering management, and film production from Purdue University, Stanford University, and New York University.

The NJLP reviewed the cartel on our website.

Steven Goldstein - Garden State Equality

Mr. Goldstein is the founder and CEO of Garden State Equality. Since its founding New Jersey has enacted 210 LGBT civil rights laws at the statewide, county and local levels – more LGBT civil rights laws enacted in less time than in any other U.S. state, ever. PolitickerNJ.com ranks Mr. Goldstein as one of the 20 most powerful people in New Jersey politics. New Jersey Monthly ranks him as one of the state’s 100 most powerful people in all walks of life. And under Mr. Goldstein’s leadership, Garden State Equality became the first statewide civil rights organization in American history to be showcased in an Academy Award®-winning film.

Mr. Goldstein was co-campaign manager of Jon Corzine's successful 2000 campaign for the U.S. Senate. As a lawyer on the staff of U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill, Mr. Goldstein was the staff point-person for nine federal civil rights bills that became law. Among them is the Freedom to Access to Clinic Entrances Act, still the only stand-alone pro-choice statute enacted at the federal level. Before entering government, Steven won 10 Emmy Awards as a television news producer.

Mr. Goldstein and his partner Daniel Gross, together since 1992, made history in September 2002 when they became the first same-sex couple in the wedding announcements of The New York Times. Their religious wedding in Montreal, and civil union the next day in nearby Vermont, was covered around the world.

Mr. Goldstein holds a B.A. summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University, an M.P.P. (Master in Public Policy) from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, an M.S. from the Columbia School of Journalism, and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. Fulfilling a lifelong dream at age 47, Mr. Goldstein is studying for the rabbinate at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He has been on leave from rabbinical school to lead Garden State Equality full-time, for which he has declined a salary since founding the organization.

Bradley Jardis

Mr. Jardis has served as a police officer in the State of New Hampshire since March of 1999. He took his oath of office three months before graduating from high school and graduated from the Part-Time New Hampshire Police Academy before finishing his high school obligations. Mr. Jardis is proud to serve the people of his state and takes his oath to uphold the just laws very seriously.

As a law enforcement officer, Mr. Jardis has seen the detrimental effects of the drug war on citizens from all walks of life. He understands many victims of theft and violence to be victims of drug prohibition; victims that could be avoided if we adopt a more rational and ethical approach to our nation's drug problems. He argues that the lessons learned from our enforcement of the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act should apply equally to our contemporary prohibition of drugs.

Recently Mr. Jardis has refused to arrest medical marijuana users. He saw a conflict between his swearing to uphold the Constitution of New Hampshire and the drug laws. As a result of his drawing a line in the sand the Executive Board of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) has thrown him out of that organization. Mr. Jardis has now resigned his position as a police officer.

His story has been covered by Free Keene, the Free State Project, Free Talk Live, the Union Leader, and many other news outlets.

Julian Heicklen - "The State of the Union"

Mr. Heicklen is an Emeritus professor in the Chemistry Department at Penn State University. At Penn State, he was affiliated with the Center for Air Environment Studies, the Ionosphere Research Laboratory, and the Institute for Biological Sciences. He has been active in libertarian causes for a long time.

He has served as a member of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania Board of Directors, a Student Outreach Program Chairman, Western Vice Chair Libertarian Party of PA, and the Faculty Advisor of the College Libertarians of Penn State. He has also served on the Libertarian Party National Platform Committee.

Mr. Heicklen recently had been educating jurors at the Federal Court House in New York City. While distributing Fully Informed Jury Pamphlets he was arrested several times. His arrests were covered by the NJLP, Free Talk Live, the Blog of Bile, and the Libertarian News Examiner.

Jany Sabins, Esquire - "Death and Taxes"

Ms. Sabins is an attorney admitted to the New Jersey and New York State Bars. She completed two undergraduate degrees at The Ohio State University, a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law, and an LL.M. Masters in Tax Law from New York University, and has hands-on experience from her association with both New York and New Jersey law firms. Ms. Sabins specializes in tax, estate, and business planning and controversy for individuals and businesses, along with estate administration and litigation. She is also an established speaker and writer on those topics, regularly presenting educational seminars for public and private groups, and as a contributing author for federal tax publications.

Ms. Sabins ran for state assembly in the 27th district on the Libertarian Party ticket in 2003. As a candidate she appeared on CNN Headline News.
